Liverpool Horror Fest 2015 is a full day of twisted entertainment with guest, stalls, and entertainers working in, and inspired by the horror genre. Embrace your dark side and JOIN US as part of the horror community.

Doors open at 12midday and will be running through until 12 midnight. There will be Q&A sessions throughout the day, as well as signings, stalls, cosplay competition, and Horrortalk’s ‘Big Fat Scary Quiz’. Grub Radio will also be broadcasting live from Rat Alley.

Guests include renowned horror author Ramsey Campbell, Grimmfest’s Simeon Halligan, and the female cenobite from HellraiserII: Barbie Wilde! We also have horror writer Paul Kane, FX artist from Shaun of the Dead Stuart Conran, and star of the Human Centipede 2 & 3, Laurance R Harvey!

Once we hit 7.30pm, as the evening draws in (and the youngsters have gone home!) we fall under the watchful eye of our evening’s compère, Rev. Dick Crypt. In his charge the entertainment gets rowdy with risqué-poetry from Foxy SweetShop, an improv séance from the raucous Impropriety, fire dancers, and a horror quiz.
We will also be showcasing the notorious musical talents of Dick Limerick Apocalypse, featuring battlerap legend OShea. They are followed by 8bit horrorpunk DJ Tommy Creep, and the evening will be headlined by local undead legends, Zombina and the Skeletones!

these are only a very limited run of only x13prints in this set, and the artwork is from the Back to the Theatre: Hellraiser event which i told you guys about recently [link].

Back to the Theatre – Film Screenings [link] are putting on a double-bill screening of Hellraiser & Hellbound.

It’s taking place in Birmingham on the 20th July, and will also feature Q&A sessions from some very special guests: Geoff Portass (SFX), and three actors from the movies,  Nick Vince (Chatterer), Simon Bamford (Butterball) and Kenneth Cranham (Dr.Channard)

Tickets are only £20 and it should be a brilliant event.

One of the reasons I mention it, is that I was lucky enough to be asked to produce some artwork for the event poster…

It was painted specifically to include the characters of the actors  who are going to be present, so it’s quite a unique combination of cenobites as a result.  This is a close up, so you can see the texture of the finished piece..

Back To The Theatre are going to be selling A1 versions of the event poster, and I will be making art prints (without text) of the piece available too.

sometime i carry around ideas in you head for years before i have a chance (or the inclination) to put pen to paper and turn it into something more substantial. this was one such project..

i’ve always love the look of dr.channard after he is turned into a cenobite.. there’s something wonderful in the aesthetic of his immense vertical height –  the appendage attached to his head is easily the length of his body, by which he is held aloft from the ground like a puppet.

so my plan was to use a long canvas and to portray his appearance at the end of the film, as this would allow for a cavernous space beneath the remnants of his head. i’m not sure i’ve managed to articulate that very well – but hopefully it makes more sense when you see the painting!

i made a thumbnail sketch before at the start of this project, to try and understand the composition i was trying to make work. here it is alongside the finished pice.

i had initially painted this face off pair, featuring skinless julia and chatterer..

however, the person who was taking them asked if i would be able to do another couple in the same style – but with the puzzle box at the centre, so the faces could all be focussed on it.

this is a progress shot of the pinhead canvas that goes with this set..

i painted another version of the chatterer for my friend joel who runs WORM FOOD studios [link] as he absolutely loves the character..

this is a shot he sent me of it hung in his ‘Hallway of Horrors’, amongst loads of his own artwork..

the previous paintings featuring the four cenobites went to the home of a collector in the UK. when they arrived he asked if i would do another couple of pieces in the same style, but this time featuring julia and dr.channard from the second film, hellbound.

because these were to be a pair, i deliberately mirrored the compositions, but with sufficient difference so they also worked as individual pieces.  i also felt focusing on the eyes of these characters inorder to empathise with their personalities.  anyway, these are the final pieces..

i wouldn’t be the artist i am today had if it weren’t for clive barker’s ‘the hellbound heart’ and the subsequent hellraiser mythos.

i held the imagery in such esteem, that throughout my life i’d never dared try to capture them artistically. but i thought it was about time to stop idolising, and get my hands dirty.

i didnt want to do standard full portraits, but rather focus on a small area of each character, which contains details and clues that make them so very unique and recognisable.

anyway, i began off with the troop of cenobites featured in the first film, starting with chatterer..

then female cenobite & butterball..

and lastly, lead cenobite..

i also painted a face of lemarchand’s box. these are the paintings all together..
